Follow in the footsteps of the last Cathars and cross the Pyrenees on foot by hiking the Chemin des Bonshommes. Flashback to the Middle Ages, when the Pyrenees were a major trade and cultural hub on the fringes of the French and Spanish kingdoms. It was then that the Cathar religion developed and garnered great success. But with success came enemies. The Church intervened and hunted down the Cathar apostles, also known as “Bonshommes”. They subsequently had to flee the Ariège region and the Inquisition to seek protection from the Catalan lords. You will mirror their escape on this magnificent and unspoiled route between Ariège and Catalonia. Nine days of hiking among stone fortresses, sanctuaries, ancient Cathar strongholds, and hilltop castles.
