Embedding a route collection on a website

Embedding a route collection on a website

Bring multiple OpenRunner routes together in a single embed and make them easier to discover from your website. Ideal for showcasing routes for an event, a destination or a themed selection.

Showcase multiple routes more clearly

When an event, destination or club wants to display multiple routes on its website, adding numerous individual embeds can quickly make a page cluttered. Embedding OpenRunner Collections allows you to bring several routes together in one place, giving visitors a clear overview that is easy to browse. This feature is particularly suitable for event organisers offering multiple formats or routes. For a triathlon, for example, the swimming, cycling and running routes can all be grouped into a single collection. The same applies to the different distances of a trail running event, hike or cycling event. Participants can therefore find all the routes directly on the event website and easily identify the one relevant to them. For destinations and regions, embedding a collection makes it possible to showcase a consistent selection of routes. Several hiking, cycling, gravel or trail running routes can, for example, be grouped around a destination, activity or theme and then displayed directly on the relevant page. A Collection therefore provides a simple way to showcase a region’s range of routes while keeping them clearly organised. Clubs and associations can also use Collections to showcase their regular routes, recommended circuits or routes planned for upcoming outings. A collection can, for example, group together the routes planned for the coming month so that members can easily find them on the club’s website. It can also bring together the different routes associated with a specific outing or event, without spreading the information across several pages.

A collection that evolves with your routes

Once the Collection has been embedded on your website, it continues to be managed centrally from OpenRunner. Changes made to the collection are automatically reflected in the embed: you can add or remove routes without having to replace the embed code on your website. This flexibility makes it easy to regularly update a route collection, whether you are updating a club programme, event routes or the selection offered by a destination. To be embedded, the Collection must be public. Only the public routes it contains are visible to visitors. A route kept private in OpenRunner will therefore not appear in the collection displayed on your website.

Collection or individual route embed: which should you choose?

The two formats meet complementary needs. An individual route embed is suitable when you want to showcase a specific route, with options including displaying its elevation profile and accessing the Flyover visualisation. A Collection is more suitable when you need to embed multiple routes on the same page. It allows you to organise them around an event, a destination, an activity or a themed selection, while avoiding the need for multiple individual embeds. With Collection embeds, you have a simple solution for showcasing and managing multiple OpenRunner routes directly from your website, while keeping all your routes grouped together in one place.
